Background
Shafiul Hassan has been involved in social work and community development since his early days. Growing up in a government school and college, he witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by friends from economically weaker backgrounds in the riverine area. Many of them were forced to drop out of school due to displacement by erosion and had to migrate for work to support their families. These experiences deeply affected him and inspired him to dedicate his life to uplifting the underprivileged.
Education & Experience
After graduating from Nabajyoti College Kalgachia in 2015, Shafiul actively worked with various clubs and NGOs to explore opportunities in the social development sector. In 2017, he served as a National Youth Volunteer (NYV) at Nehru Yuva Kendra, Barpeta, and was involved in a study on cane and bamboo artisans sponsored by IIE. He has also received NFI-FST Peace Award 2018 fellowship support from reputable organizations like the Foundation for Social Transformation and the National Foundation for India.
Mission
Shafiul's goal is to work among the most marginalized communities in the Barpeta district of Assam, focusing on poverty alleviation, quality education, women's empowerment, inter-community harmony, and environmental conservation.
Response to COVID-19
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Shafiul collaborated with various stakeholders and NGOs to provide essential support to vulnerable populations. In response to the crisis, he established the AMAN Foundation in April 2021 to reach out to the most excluded parts of the district.
Motivation
Shafiul's early exposure to social issues and personal experiences with underprivileged communities have fueled his passion for social service. Witnessing the challenges faced by children in the riverine area, such as limited access to education, lack of resources, and environmental threats, has solidified his commitment to creating positive change. His desire for equity and social justice, coupled with a deep connection to the region, motivates him to fight for equal opportunities and address existing inequalities.
